Wes only shot 1 game over 200 through 6 games and the match still went to 7 games. I think it was odd that Tom Daugherty bowled two high rev guys neither of his opponents could score. My guess is their skid through the front was not as good as Tom's roll through the front. Hard to skid a no thumb release. Wish I had watched more of this match.

Tim Criss is carrying better than I thought he would and his opponents are seeing more transition than I thought they would. Tells me that the oil is too thin for the higher rev rates. Tim can move left and the oil down lane doesn't bother him much because of his speed. Speed/rev ratio is key. Too high a rev rate makes you see quicker transition in the front. And they are breaking down quick.

Joe was given his opportunities but was unable to capitalize on them. The quick break-down transition really effects bowlers. When they are on a double or turkey and need the next one are they bold enough to move or do they stay there and hope they haven't broke down yet. This week chances are they already broke down. Move too early and it is a bucket washout or 2-10. Don't move quick enough and it is a big 4. Himmler's angles are suited to the break down. Joe's speed should have been. I wonder if he was trying to play Brian's line. If he was, he is too rolly to play there.

Amleto is too quick to move left. His ball is not reading the friction right. The quick transition in the middle part of the lane is not an advantage to too high a rev rate and too much tilt. Mike's roll sees the friction smoother keeping him out of as much trouble. and allowing his angles to get the ball through the pins better.

As with the other matches Mika's ball reads the mid-lane transition smoother so his moves don't have to be as quick. If there was more hook to the right than moving left wouldn't be as scary. Matching a bowler's speed/rev ratio is key to seeing less oil down lane and more recovery. Believe it or not Brad's rev rate is a little too high to be trying to get it too recover. He can do it but he has to move quickly. Mika can just go over the friction and maintain his angles.

Nothing new here. This round is seeing earlier friction. The lanes are breaking down quicker. Walter doesn't have to move as much and Tony can't make the right guesses. Result is some type of multi-pin spare for Tony and Walter stays closer to the pocket.

The additional early friction and length of pattern is more conducive to a bowler who can go over it or through it. Ritchie is going over it and his ball is lining up quickly making his roll look more end over end than it really is. I did not expect the lanes to provide as much early friction as they are in this round but it is the right match-up for Ritchie. Blaise's revs are too tilty to read it as smooth as Ritchie's. Ritchie's ball rolls up Blaise's ball hooks off the spot, which is OK if that spot was easy to find or more consistent.

This was the test I wanted to see for Jim and he did not pass it. He has got to learn to follow his own transition better. I am sure the lanes didn't help but he could have made a better showing than he did.
