Vapor Zone
I have to feature this ball again because it
is so popular. This ball was in very high demand. I hope
manufacturing is going to be able to keep up with the demand on
this one better than I was able to. With the Player Services
Trailer in the shop for repairs we are using a rented trailer to
haul around the inventory. You can always tell which balls are
popular because some seem to always come up missing at open
entry tournaments. There are just too many people having access
to the ball areas. I tried to hide these balls just for that
reason and I still had a case come up missing.
Stronger than the Classic and more angular
than the Absolute seems to be the most popular description given
by most. The most popular layout has been a small hole 55 degree
(secondary pin to pin to pap). This is in line with other balls
in the Zone line with different covers. To square up to the lane
I have had more success with 30 degrees. and if I need to
decrease the overall strength of the ball I have been able to
use as much as 70 degrees without giving up too much reaction
off the dry. Most pin to axis distances have been in the 4 3/4
inch to 5 3/4 inch with the post popular being 5 1/4 to 5 1/2.
Surfaces are most anything but shiney. Too
shiney has not been good for what we have been bowling on. The
most popular surface prep is 1000 grit paper or gray pad. The
higher speed bowlers have gone to as much as light brown scotch
brite.
I can tell the surface is going to have the
same versatility of the absolute but in no way do I think the
Absolute and the Vapor Zone are too close to being the same. I
have to assume bowlers will be able to tell the difference even
on league walls. The Vapor plays like a stronger ball than the
Absolute once the surface is matched up. |
