Green 4
Robert Smith
vs
Brian Voss
I am stuck on this one. I
just don't know how this one if going to play out. I really
expect Brian to have more problems with the oil transitions
down lane and if Robert effects Brian's laydown area I don't
see Brian being able to get the ball to hit from in. At the
same time the pattern is awful short and the gutter doesn't
hook enough for Robert to open it up that easily. I will
pick Robert because of the number of scouts.
Green 3
Amleto Monacelli
vs
Jack Jurek
Amleto is a little grabby on
this pattern right now. He needs to clean things up a little
to avoid the quick transition. Jack will not have to move as
quickly or as drastically. If Amleto can clean it up he will
be able to bank it off of Jack's break down. But that is
liable to happen late.
Green 2
Patrick Allen
vs
Christopher Collins
Pattern, Surface and
Transition favor Patrick on this one. I see Games 2 and
especially 3 and 4 being difficult for Chris and by that
time Patrick will have his side of the lane set up and the
lane surface being cleaner on the left will be easier to
follow
Green 1
Brad Angelo
vs
Tore Torgersen
I have seen this type of
match up for Brad before. He likes to transition the lane
in a higher scoring fashion. But to be honest with you I
don't think he should in this match. After Brad widens the
target area he doesn't seem to make the move in and adapt to
the different angles quickly enough. He usually winds up
with too strong of a ball effecting his carry. He will be
made aware of that in the AM
Blue 4
Walter Ray Williams Jr.
vs
Mike Fagan
There is no guarantee that
Michael is going to be able to get close enough to Walter on
the fresh to widen the target area. Meaning he would have to
commit to playing a zone that will most likely cause him to
loose the first two games. Mike is a little to cautious or
defensive in his game plans right now. He will need to clean
up his release and not jump left too fast. Walter could
actually move right.
Blue 3
Ben Laughlin
vs
Mike DeVaney
A clearer picture helped Mike
in the night block. It will be interesting if it works in
the morning. There is a spot on the lane that the lower rev
players can get to that the higher rev players can not. Ben
has a chance in this match unless Mike forces Ben to open
his angles beyond his comfort zone. I know if Mike has
enough time to actually think about it he is smart enough to
effect Bens zone.
Blue 2
Tony Reyes
vs
Tim Criss
I like the length Tony's
armswing and cleaner release on this match up. Tim has been
working on cleaning up his release. He typically likes to
hit or catch it too much. The transition is so quick this
week and catching too much makes you have to move that much
faster. Tony is not cinch because he can get a little grabby
on a bad day too.
Blue 1
David Traber
vs
Michael Machuga
If Michael can get some sleep
and come in with a clear head David will have little chance
in this match. But that is no guarantee. This is not Dave's
nut and Michael could easily make the show on this.
Black
4
Randy Pedersen
vs
Wes Malott
Randy's swing can look very good when he sees enough
friction to let it go. He likes to feel it accelerate and
with the added friction from 20-30 feet I don't see near as
many repeating problems. Randy will likely try to use arc
with surface and if he does, he will be simple prey for Wes.
Black
3
Jason Couch
vs
Patrick Healey Jr.
Picking a winner here will not be based on
transition strategies. I don't think either of these bowlers
have games that match up real well on what I expect to be
there in the AM. I expect both to be using too much angle
early to make the lanes transition well. There will be
brooklyns and may have an impact on the winner several
times. I think I will go with the lefty.
Black
2
Parker Bohn III
vs
Rick Steelsmith I
have always liked Rick's chances when he can get to match
play, he sees and adapts to parallel lane breakdown well. He
will have his own lane to work with. This could be
interesting. Neither one of these bowlers are in complete
control of their swing right now. The difference could be
the one who can keep the elbow from bumping out early the
best. The short pattern that doesn't play out is not
favorable to flaws in the arm swing.
Black
1
Tommy Jones
vs
Brian Himmler
This may be the first time a bowler in quite some time might
actually like the way Tommy breaks the lane down. I can both
bowlers pushing oil to the midlane early and drying up the
front at the same time. This should force Tommy deeper
faster and assuming Brian starts as deep as I expect him to
I honestly think Brian will see better transitions.
Red 4
Doug Kent
vs
Chris Barnes
This will be interesting and
I would like to say this will be a good match. But to be
honest with you I don't think it will be that good of a
match. Dough likes to get his hand to the side of the ball
and hit the ball on the side when he sees early friction. I
don't like that type of roll reads transition when it
happens as fast as it will tomorrow and a slight miss has a
good chance of bucketing. I like Chris roll better.
Red 3
Rudy Kasimakis
vs
Ritchie Allen
THB versus ABT
Ritchie has nicknamed himself
Typical House Bowler. Rudy is Anything But Typical. I
started to say this was the most consistent scores I have
seen Rudy have for the year but then I had to erase it
because he has been pretty consistent. It is just his
consistent scores have not been enough to make it to match
play. Obviously Rudy is seeing something is more comfortable
with.
Red 2
Ryan Shafer
vs
Mika Koivuniemi
I don't like this match up
for Mika. Ryan likes to take advantage of the way his
opponent breaks down the lane. There is no doubt he will do
the same this week. Mika can break a lane down very nice. It
will be very interesting to see what his strategy will be.
Ryan was 48 over in the morning Mika was 108 over. Mika was
another 108 in the evening. Ryan was 159 over this evening.
I am glad they are bowling in the AM

Round of 8
Patrick Allen
vs
Amleto Monacelli
(Post Match comments)
How this match got to game
seven surprised me. I will give credit to Amleto for getting
it that far but he was over matched. Patrick is just plain
awesome.
Blue
Round of 8
Tony Reyes
vs
Michael Fagan
(Post match comments)
I was concerned with this
match up but Michael did a much better job of transitioning
the lanes than he did in the round of 16.
Michael is
quick to jump left and hopefully will gain confidence in his
ability to play up the lane. The 289 he shot in game one was
with a two inch pin Punisher.
Black
Round of 8
Tommy Jones
vs
Wes Malott
(Post Match comments)
I am watching old NFL tapes when typing this
and they are talking about adjusting game plans and reacting
to their opponents strategies. That is so much like we do on
tour. I am sure that both Tommy and Wes were quite busy
doing their best at reacting to the quick transitions they
had to be seeing.
Red
Round of 8
Mike Scroggins
vs
Doug Kent
(post match comments)
A gallant effort by Doug
but Mikes look has been too good all week to think he had
much of a real chance.
Green
Round of 16
2
Brian Voss
vs
Amleto Monacelli
(Post match comments)
I would have thought Brian
was the favorite in this match-up and when I saw the recap
of the scores. I see a couple late frame opens in games 1
and 2 by Brian were very key in the outcome of this match.
Green
Round of 16
1
Patrick Allen
vs
Brad Angelo
(Post match comments)
We were very concerned about
the difference in scoring pace in this match and it proved
to be real. As hard as Brad tried to develop the pattern it
was just too much to overcome. He didn't have the natural
match-up nor the time to get the lane set up for himself
Blue
Round of 16
2
Michael Fagan
vs
Ben Laughlin
Ben is starting to show the
signs of frustration. I have not got to know Ben but he
seems to be a very nice guy. I can feel for the confusion
and frustration he is feeling but when the shoes are laced
up and balls are on the rack Ben has a ways to go to compete
in this environment. In his third year on tour Michael is
still developing as well.
Blue
Round of 16
1
Tony Reyes
vs
David Traber
(post match comments)
This was the biggest upset in
the round of 16 when you look at their performance in the
round of 32. A slow start in game one by Dave turned out to
be the key difference in the match.
Black
Round of 16
2
Jason Couch
vs
Wes Malott Wes
had to be expecting a tougher match than he got out of
Jason. I think Wes bowled as expected but Jason obviously
was not as comfortable as he was in the round of 32. We have
seen this happen on several occasions on the left side of
the lane over the last couple years. Straighter is greater.
Black
Round of 16
1
Tommy Jones
vs
Parker Bohn III(post match comments)
By the time I am writing this I am pretty sure Parker is
a proud PaPa of his first daughter. My thoughts are not on
the match as much as they are on hoping everything is well
for Parker, Leslie and their daughter. It wouldn't surprise
me if Parker's mind wasn't totally into the match, and it
would have to have been to compete with Tommy
Red
Round of 16
2
Rudy Kasimakis
vs
Doug Kent
(post match comments)
Without the field to help
transition the lanes Rudy was subject to the pattern and
what he and Doug do to the lane. The difference in this
match had to do with the ability of Doug to match up and
control the transition. While Rudy needed the lane to
transition to his liking.
Red
Round 16
1
Mike Scroggins
vs
Mika Koivuniemi
Post Match Comments
The results speaks volumes.
Red 1
Mike Scroggins
vs
DJ Archer
DJ was 159
over for his morning block and 46 under for the night block.
Mike was 225 over for the morning block and 186 over for the
night block. Mike is one of the hottest bowlers of the year.
DJ hasn't made it past the round of 32 yet. (This is his 5th
match play appearance) DJ is scrambling to keep his job. DJ
is 58th in points and needs as many as he can get. You can
feel the pressure building.
