Mika knew he had his work cut out for him. We drilled up a trick ball and Mika tried to get a part of the lane to transition in a way that he could compete against the superior look of Mike Scroggins. The real hope was that Mikes look got worse. Neither happened and we will move on.

Rudy had a much tougher challenge in this round as his opponent had a much better match-up. This was another match that was pretty easy to pick. Rudy just hasn't got enough tools to compete on the PBA patterns and match-play transitions. That doesn't mean he isn't good it just means it skills are not usable in this environment very often.

I started watching this match in game three and was shocked to see both Mike and Ben playing left of 20. Obviously something was goofy on this pair. I just can not imagine Ben thinking he is going to compete with Michael in that part of the lane. Just as obvious he can't but he did take Michael to 7 games. I still wonder what could have been so different that Ben would have to move left of 10.

Game one has to haunt Dave. He got off to a slow start that probably didn't mean much at the time. Knowing Dave had as good a look as anybody on the right side of the lane on the fresh he probably felt comfortable he had plenty of time to make up for it. But just like every other bowler who likes to play up the lane with surface the conditions just get easier for everybody on the pair. When they start to loose their carry quite often they loose their advantage and become prey. More times than not these styles of players get run over late in the match because their opponent can use what they built. This is the importance of not being so one dimensional at the elite level of our sport.

I feel like we missed something this week. The look that Patrick Allen and Mike Scroggins had made me think we could should be able to find something just as good for Parker. Mike and Patrick's ball rolls so smoothly off of the dry. That is because of their physical game while Parker and Jason's look is much shaper off the friction. Parker was using the BVP Ambush to accomplish this smooth motion and it was close but in this round Parker's carry was effected with the too smooth of a move. The number of nine counts he was experiencing was not matching up to the scoring pace his opponent was setting. The next step down from the three Ambushes Parker tried made too big of a jump motion off of the dry. Tommy moves on to the round of 8 while Parker hurries off to the airport where he will fly home to be with his wife Leslie as they prepare for an even more joyous event. Parker and Leslie's family will be growing larger this weekend.

There are no right handers in the building this week wanting to challenge a left handed opponent. But obviously there is more to it than just what side of the lane they are bowling on. Jason and Parker's look on the left side of the lane does not match up to the look of Mike Scroggins and Patrick Allen's look. It seems that the oil is going down the lane on both sides of the lane. And that is not a bad combination for Wes Malott. What could have been a blow out the other way turned into another show opportunity for Wes Malott in his very memorable year. During years like this it is amazing how things just seem to happen your way.

The early lead was enough of a lead for Amleto to figure out how to deal with the transition he was seeing in games 4 and 5. Open frames by Brian late in games 2 and 3 gave away leads that eventually effected the outcome of the match.

The difference in this match was the confidence in the ability to throw a string of strikes. There was little confidence on the right side of the lane that the lanes would stay consistent enough to get into a rhythm of striking. On the left it was just a matter of finding the right ball, hand and speed. Once the bowler found the right combination they could feel much more confident that a string of strikes would follow. Transition was much slower on the left side of the lane giving them an advantage
