Do the Results mean anything? That is for you to decide. I have charted the TV results to provide a little more interesting look. Keep in mind that the TV environment is different than the match-play environment and the match-play environment is different than the qualifying environment. The conditions the bowlers compete on are affected by many variables with the largest influence being the strategy of the field that is competing. Pay special attention to how the players are effecting transition see if you notice the strategies being used by the players. Equipment changes and drastic moves on the lane are easy to catch but if you watch very closely you might be able to catch subtle changes in a players physical game. Not all bowlers have or use the same tools.

The most common transition tools are:

Ball Speed
Angles
Hand or Wrist Positions
Ball Choices

Not as easily noticed are individual techniques that players develop looking for an advantage, these techniques are directly related to what defines a bowler. Bowlers are defined by their transitional moves. What do you do when you leave a 4 pin or a 10 pin? Those moves define you as a bowler. Watch the best in the world they don't all make the same transitional moves. Are you being limited by your transitional moves?

Bowling is always about following transition. The one that follows it the best is usually the one that wins

Cheetah Shark Viper Scorpion Chameleon Majors
Tulsa Championships
4 right handers
on the show.
Tommy Jones beat Chris Barnes in game one. Wes beat Mike Wolfe in game two. Tommy Jones beat Wes Malott for the title. Tommy and Wes hooked it. Chris and Mike played further to the right and more up the back of the ball. Tommy and Wes did not seem to have the same transition issues they had during the week. I expected there ball to see more oil transition at the end of the pattern. Mike and Chris had good looks with the right lane playing tighter down lane. The early hook spot they were trying to play actually bounced harder. That combination created a more sensitive length wise window.
Mile High Classic
Played very tight down lane. higher rev to speed ratio was an obvious advantage.
  Chicago Classic
Played different from practice day to qualifying. Once Qualifying started they remained consistent. The low end of the house was lower scoring. The lane to lane was pretty different on the low end. One lane would provide much earlier friction than the other and it was compounded because the backends played tight. Slower speed was actually a tool and the players could open the lanes up more than they normally can but you had to have the speed or rev rate to do it. Physical match-ups were more important than ball choices. The strike Zone and the Vapor Zones both looked good. Used a lot of 5 1/2 inch or weaker pins and 55 degree twists and only small holes. Surfaces were around 2000 Aberlon. Alot of players were using masses closer to the axis than I felt the need to. The TV pair was 7-8. Eight hooked alot earlier than 7. Both lanes player tighter down lane than they had all week. Parker used a Vapor Zone all week but was too weak on the show. I would have liked to see a stronger mass with a hole in a Vapor and more overall surface on the balls he used during the week.
Council Bluffs
Played totally different than any other Chameleon pattern we have bowled on. It resembled Cheetah more than Chameleon but you could not play it like Cheetah because of transition. Carry was the biggest issue. It was easy enough to get to the pocket but hard to catch up if you got caught hooking it too much too long. Hand needed to be up the back. firm speed a big advantage. Rev rate was not as big an issue as the first two tournaments of the year. Angles and roll were the biggest factors

USBC Masters-
The scoring pace was a higher than many majors. The left had an lane to lane advantage most of the week. The right had to fight more transition. Had to pay very special attention to angles. The middle part of the lane played much drier in match-play as if something was changed. The low end of the house was much tighter than the high end. Vapor Zones and Strike Zones looked good.
