Parker Bohn III

Considered by many to be one of the greatest bowlers in the history of the PBA. You do not want to get in a CATS challenge with him...you will lose. Parker's record speaks for itself. The things that don't get mentioned enough are what stars do, or don't do for their sport in return for the wealth and fame.

For parents, coaches, or fans that want to meet someone who is the perfect bowling idol, make sure you take the time to meet Parker. In a time when trash talking, in your face attitudes are ever present... It is a pleasing experience when you meet Parker.

When you want to know the true measure of a man, look how he acts when things are down. The new conditions and format of the PBA have not favored Parker. How is he responding? Put yourself in his shoes and think how you would handle it. Then judge the man.

29 titles, 2 Player of the Year awards, 12 out of 13 years he had prize earnings over $100,000. Then the new PBA is formed and all of a sudden his ball does not react the same any more.

Parker's Grip

Parker's Arsenal

I don't know how you would handle it, but I can tell you what Parker has done. I have been there and witnessed it. The practice sessions, the equipment concerns, the lane philosophies, and the physical changes. Sure it has been frustrating, and without a doubt there have been struggles. But all the way Parker has handled the process with a degree of professionalism that defines who he is. Don't think that Parker is the only one effected by the change, he is just one of the most obvious because of his super star status. One of my responsibilities is to understand the strengths and weaknesses of a bowlers mental game. Parker's mental game is like a light switch. Parker will be cruising around trying to figure things out, but when he (and I mean he) decides to flip the switch you can see it. You can also tell when he is not comfortable with what he is seeing. You have to add in another factor, Parker is left handed. I know it is a sensitive issue, but being left handed offers different challenges than those of a right hander.

For years Parker has dominated the left side because of his unique abilities and unmatched mental approach to the sport. You can not expect a man to change what was successful for so many years until he knows it is time. We are in the 9th week of the 2004-2005 season and I saw what I was looking for in week 7. I am not talking about any particular results, but I think he decided it was time to flip the switch.
