Sara Vargas was born in Colombia the daughter of Wilson and Aminta Vargas. Bowling has always been a big part of her life and has given her the opportunity to see the world. Sara has been traveling around the world bowling for her national team since 1993. Bowling in over 23 different countries around the world has allowed Sara to experience different cultures and meet many special people. Sara came to the United States in 1998 when she was given the opportunity to bowl for Wichita State University.

Sara competed in the Shocker program for 4 years enjoying all 4 years as contenders for the Collegiate National Championships. Finishing second in 2002, 3rd in 2001, 4th in 2000, and another 3rd in 1999. Graduating from Wichita State in 2002 with a degree in Graphics Design. Being away from her family was a real challenge because of her strong family tradition and bonds. Those challenges have been righted now that her family has joined her here in the United States.

Sara's parents live in Orlando, Florida. Her brother German (pronounced Herman) is a professor at Wichita State University and living in Wichita, Kansas with his wife Diana Leal. Sara also has a cousin Krishna, whom is more like a sister, living in Orlando looking for an opportunity to use her degree in Micro Biology.

Sara continues to have a passion for the sport of bowling and loves to compete whenever and where ever she is given the opportunity. Sara not only has a love for competition but enjoys learning and sharing knowledge and experiences with others. Sara is presently working on programs that will allow her to use her educational background and passion for the sport to help develop bowlers of all skill levels and all cultures.
