First Ever PBA Women's Series
The Motor City Classic and Taylor Lanes will host
the first ever PBA Women's Series.
16 girls will participate. They will compete on the same lanes at the same
time as the men but will have their own standings. They
will not compete against the men.
After qualifying 8 girls will advance to a best 4 out of
7 match-play round.
They will compete using the same rules as the men the
only difference being the size of the field.
I have strong feelings about women's bowling. As an
industry we need women's bowling. Women are the best
ambassadors of our sport. Their emotion and passion for
the sport is far superior to that of the men. They do a
better job of inspiring others to participate in our
sport. They present and more positive environment than
the men. Nothing against the men but very few men
present themselves to the public as ambassadors. They
are over focused on themselves and their performance.
Women have form and style that typical bowlers can
relate to. They have fundamentals that learning bowlers
can say "I can do that" to.
Our sport needs our stars to inspire others to bowl. Men
tend to intimidate while women tend to invite. Kids may
look up to the men and say wow but women encourage more
naturally.
I am sure every women who qualified for the Women's
series is out to win one of the 4 tournaments. We will
see good competition that is full of emotion and
passion. That leads to good TV.

| Stopped
by Muskegon on the way to Taylor |
One of the good things about being
in this part of the country is that I get to stop by and
see my friends and colleagues in Muskegon.
Last year I was able to take the ferry across the lake
from Milwaukee to Muskegon. What a memorable trip that
was. My girlfriend Sara Vargas, Nathan Bohr, and myself
made the trip. The ferry does not run all year round and
we were lucky to catch the last ferry trip of the year.
Well Sara and I were lucky anyway. Nathan spent the last
half of the trip making regular trips to the side of the
the ferry. It may not sound like much but the waves were
measured at 6 ft. and the shut the ferry down when they
reach 7 ft.
I was hoping to take the ride again, dang it...they shut
the ferry down a week earlier this year. So I had to
drive around the lake .
Once there we spent the day sharing thoughts and ideas
about ball reaction and future strategies.

I owe it to the staff to mention their
presence. If there is anything I want to develop it is a way to
help the staff that pops in every now and then. When a bowler
show up for random tournaments. I am not thinking about bowling
balls I am thinking about helping them with lane and transition
strategies. One of the biggest challenges is that many bowlers
think that there is a magic ball.
You just drill one up and roll it down the lane and bam you are
good. NOT!
There are a lot of skilled players across this country but
making it on the exempt tour requires the ability to see and
adapt to an invisible course. Bowling balls are probing tools to
help recognize this invisible course. The last thing I want to
do is give a bowler a probing tool they do not understand.
One of these days I will devote all my time to teaching this
great sport of ours. Right now I am only able to work with a
select few and it takes time to build an understanding and
working relationship that benefits the bowler. I have a couple
ideas that might work, that I will be testing in the near
future. Keep your eyes and ears open if you are interested in
participating. |
