Wes Malott
vs
Chris Loschetter Wes made the lanes
look good both sets yesterday while Chris did not
get them figured out until the second block. I
expect them to be more like the morning block and
that might spell doom for Chris.
Both very talented players but the oil down lane
should favor the roll and revs of Wes over the tilt
and swing of Chris |
Green 3
|
Ken Simard
vs
Dave D'Entremont We are going to
need a landscape crew after this match. There is
going to be a trench dug into the lane, and it is
going to be sideways. I expect the scores to go up
late in this match but early transition should favor
Dave as he is the softer hand. I will give Dave the
edge because I think he clears the front easier and
can use an earlier break point. |
Green 2
|
Mika Koivuniemi
vs
Jack Jurek Let me tell you this.
Mika is throwing the ball better than ever with more
tools than ever. His ball reaction is very good.
Look for Mika to be using a lot of the Twisted Fury
this year. Everyone we have drilled for him has
looked good. Jack Jurek is a vastly improved player
from just a few years back. I expect Mika to get by
Jack but this is not an easy match at all. |
Green 1
|
Brad Angelo
vs
Tommy Jones Lets get this year
started right. Brad is much more in to bowling this
year. A much more motivated Brad deserves my
support. I am picking Brad to break through this
year. What a great way to start the year off than
with a supreme challenge in Tommy Jones. If your
going to do it you will have to beat the best. |
Blue 4
|
Danny Wiseman
vs
Dino Castilo Unpredictable to me. I
have zero idea of what is going to happen in this
match. Danny is suppose to have the edge because he
has the softer hand on the morning fresh but Dino
has done some impressive things since the last half
of the 06-07 season.
I will pick Danny this morning but
think Dino would get him if they were bowling later
in the day |
Blue 3
|
Michael Fagan
vs
Edward VanDaniker Jr I like this
Eddie kid. but he is a kid. Michael
Fagan is one of my favorites and have really enjoyed
watching him develop. He goes through transitions
better than ever and that is where I expect Eddie to
get caught in this match. |
Blue 2
|
Jeff Lizzi
vs
Tony Reyes Jeff is a business man
now and is going to be a daddy pretty soon. That
might have his mind on other things.
Tony has the speed and roll to
stay with the preferred angles with Viper/Absolute
Control transitions. I pick Tony
but always enjoy watching Jeff. He is a hard match
up if he catches his look. |
Blue 1
|
Ryan Shafer
vs
Mike Edwards Eddie has been at the
top of the leader board throughout qualifying. That
is no guarantee but I think it is enough to get by
Ryan and the way he breaks down a lane. I know Ryan
will get lined up and have the late advantage but
will need to show me a little better transitional
control before I can get on his side totally |

|
Steve Jaros
vs
Chris Barnes This is suppose to be
Chris advantage but I don't know if he has the
arsenal to stay up the lane like he will want to do.
Steve's ball does not read the front as much as
Chris's which could be enough of an advantage in the
middle games. I am a big Chris Barnes fan and know
he will see the moves but just don't feel it for him
this morning. |
Black

|
Jim Tomek Jr
vs
Mike DeVaney I will pick Jim's
improvements over Mike's history. Mike is suppose to
have the advantage but I really liked Jim's ball
roll he was using yesterday. Inclination with roll
is a great combination. I think Mike's going to have
to try and match up with balls while Jim should be
able to follow the transitions with his type of roll |
Black
2
|
Michael Machuga
vs
Eugene McCune Two extreme players.
They both like to go from up the boards to around
the whole lane with very little in between. This
will be interesting. I expect Eugene to try and stay
out the whole time while Mike goes left. But trying
to figure these two out is a lot like trying to
follow a hurricane. You never know where it is going
to end up |
Black

|
Doug Kent
vs
Norm Duke Wow! How in the world
Norm did not kill them yesterday morning I will
never know. He is suppose to be leading this
tournament in my mind. Doug is
never a push over but Norm is suppose to beat
everybody on these transitions. Maybe he was teasing
everybody yesterday morning. I
expect Norm to be on the show |
Red 4
|
Dan MacLelland
vs
Chris Warren The only thing I have
learned about Dan this week is how to spell his
name. As far as Chris is concerned
I see less up in his hit which is what he needed out
here. I know Chris has the advantage in experience
and when the calluses clear up on his finger tips he
is going to be a real force again. Less bang for the
buck should be his theme for the 07-08 season |
Red 3
|
Pete Weber
vs
Brian Himmler Pete is throwing the
ball better and that has to be an advantage in the
morning. Brian has made some changes to his game
over the break but I don't really understand them
yet. So I am going to pick the streaks the Pete will
go on to be enough to handle what ever it is the
Brian is working on. I will have to
get back with you on Brian's progress. I am sure he
knows what is looking for better than I do. |
Red 2
|
Mike Scroggins
vs
Tommy DeLutz Jr. Mike is the lone
lefty to make it to match-play. Man he sure has the
trick on that side of the lane. The other lefties
men and women alike had no clue how to stay up with
the right.
Tommy D. is looking good and I am
not going to bet against the right this week.

Round of 8
|
Chris Loschetter
vs
Mika Koivuniemi At this point of
the tournament most bowlers are locked into what
they want to do. I really like what
Mika is doing and expect him to be able to recognize
anything that might happen. Chris
Barnes wants to add: If Mika escapes 1-1 it is over
before game 6 |
Blue
Round of 8
|
Edward VanDaniker Jr
vs
Jeff Lizzi Crowd favorite is Lizzi
but VanDaniker has the better reaction. Jeff was
down 0-2 in both of his matches before he got his
look. Eddie has one of the top five
hands on tour according to Chris Barnes
Chris says Eddie makes his first show of the year
because of the pressure of the crowd on Jeff |
Black
Round of 8
|
Eugene McCune
vs
Mike Devaney By Chris Barnes:
If Mike Devaney bowls like he is suppose to in the
first 2 games this will be an interesting match.
Huge swings. Not very many close games. Back and
forth Eugene from out Mike from in.
The longer it goes the more it favors Mike. Eugene
in 5 or Mike in 7. |
Red
Round of 8
|
Walter Ray Williams Jr
vs
Pete Weber By Chris Barnes:
Walter owns Pete and Pete knows it.
Any early momentum by Walter ends this one early.
Walter should win the first two games because of
ball reaction. And after watching Pete give up after
frame 6 of game 1 at the Masters, that should be
enough to end this match |
Green
Round of 16
2
|
Chris Loschetter
vs
Dave D'Entremont I know that Chris
Loschetter is going to be recognized as one of the
better players in a short period of time. He has
good tools and great instincts.
Learning to use those tools and avoid confusion is a
lesson in itself. Dave has less tools but can create
recovery from oil that others can not. I am
leaning towards Chris because of the pair they are
on. |
Green
Round of 16
1
|
Mika Koivuniemi
vs
Brad Angelo Mika is at the top of
his game right now. Brad is on his way back. Both
have a great look on the lane. Mika has to be the
favorite. Brad will use a new found motivation and
his very competitive instincts to state his case.

Round of 16
2
|
Dino Castilo
vs
Edward VanDaniker Jr I watched Dino
this morning and he spent a lot of time shaking his
head. I am guessing he is not real comfortable with
his look. I think this is a match
that Eddie can win.
Dino's advantage comes when the
fronts are causing issues for others. The backends
are the problem this week. |
Blue
Round of 16
1
|
Jeff Lizzi
vs
Ryan Shafer I did not expect either
one of these bowlers to get by their first round
opponent. I understand Tony (Jeff's
first round opponent) is having knee problems. I
haven't watched either one of these guys bowl these
week so I can't offer much of an opinion but I will
pick the guy who is going to need a new pair of
shoes for his soon to be newborn. |
Black
Round of 16
2
|
Mike DeVaney
vs
Chris Barnes Chris reminded me that
I don't pick him to win very often. How can that be
when I may be his number one fan. Oh well maybe it
is because he left me. If so I am
sorry Chris, you have to know that I think you are
one of the best. I haven't seen Mike throw a ball
this week and picked him to bowl well. He better if
he plans on beating Chris.
Chris in 5 is my prediction. |
Black
Round of 16
1
|
Doug Kent
vs
Eugene McCune I have to believe
Doug is going to match up to the transition better
than Machuga did. I am picking Dough to have the
late advantage so I will join his corner.
If you have never seen Eugene flame it up the gutter
it is a treat to see. Expect a few pin outs during
the match and a Eugene out at the end of the
match. |
Red
Round of 16
2
|
Pete Weber
vs
Chris Warren We have a couple heavy
weight bowling here. The largest waist size on the
pair is barely over 30 inches.
Little guys with big balls. Both Chris and Pete love
the big wheel. This will be a big thrill for the
fans if they are both striking. I lean towards Chris
in the match because I think he will use the
sidewalls more effectively. |
Red
Round 16
1
|
Walter Ray Williams Jr
vs
Tommy Delutz Jr. Nobody can get to
the part of the lane that Walter is using. He will
play up 2 while others think they are playing up the
lane Walter can close it down more effectively than
anybody on tour. No other bowler left in the
tournament can use the part of the head pin that
Walter can use. He trips a lot of 4's.
Walter is my pick to win this week so don't take it
personal Tommy |
Red 1
|
Walter Ray Williams
Jr
vs
Stevie Weber This is
not the same Williams vs Weber match that has been
made so popular of late.
I hope Walter has a tougher time against this Weber.
But I can not go against Walter's matchup with the
Viper/Absolute Control transitions. I expect Walter
and Norm to bowl for the title this week.
On paper they should anyway. |
