Featured balls of the week

The featured balls of the week of Spartanburg are the two Twisted Fury's Parker used on the show.

  Ball #1
This is the ball Parker used for his two first games against Billy Oatman and Patrick Allen
  Ball #2
This is the ball Parker used in his third match against Rhino Page.

The Twisted Fury is surrounded with enMotion cover-stock and geared with a new asymmetric core known as Torsion asymmetric.measuring in at 2.512 minimum RG with a .036 differential. The core uses elliptical asymmetry and provides us with an asymmetrical differential of .023.  This combination has provided me with the most versatile ball I have ever worked with in my over 10 years as a tour rep for Brunswick. The Twisted Fury has created a lot of excitement for those able to use it and a lot of frustration for those who can not. The biggest difference between this ball and previous balls I have worked with is the noticeable difference in the latter stages of transition. This ball just gets better and better.

Parker's PAP (positive axis point) is 5 11/16 over and 7/16 up. Measuring the pin to axis distance has ball one 5 5/8 inches from Parkers PAP and ball two has a pin to PAP distance of 5 1/4. The second layout consideration is the angle measured from Parkers PAP to the primary pin to the secondary pin. Both angles measure 45 degrees. I chose to put a weight hole at the same location as the secondary pin. Because of the pin height and pin to axis distances the weight hole will not be in the exact distance or location relative to Parker's PAP. But relative to the core design it is located in the exact same place.

The purpose of the ball used in Parker's first two games was to smooth out Parker's ball motion. This allowed Parker to use a break point shorter than the length of the pattern and not be so sensitive to where the oil was being pushed to. Knowing that this layout would have a short lifespan through transition the second ball was drilled to create a stronger motion off the break-point. The thought was to go to this ball once the oil settled down.

Both of the surfaces were out of the box with a light gloss of the Brunswick High Gloss polish. A clean rag was used with a dot of polish less than the size of a nickel. Light pressure was used and cleaned off with water.

The use of Authority 22 oil on a Brunswick Pro Anvilane surface was a big factor in our strategies. The bowling center had HPL surface which has a higher friction characteristic than Pro Anvilane. You could see the difference in the drier portions of the lane. Authority 22 does not break down in the front part of the lane as quick as most oils so I was not too worried about the front part of the lane.

The rest was all Parker. Parker was a very focused and determined bowler. I don't want to make it sound like the ball is the reason Parker won. Parker won because his arm-swing was once again the Parker we all know and love to watch. When Parker got up in the 10th needing to put the pressure on his opponent nobody could have thrown them any better.

To a bowler there is no better feeling than having to perform in the 10th frame. Whether it is for your 1st title or your 31st title that feeling never gets old. That moment in time lasts less than a minute but the memories of the ups and downs, the victories and losses, the doubts and doubters help make title number 31 that much more special.
