Brian Kretzer
vs
Troy Wollenbecker Brian struggled
to shoot 190. That is a sure way of getting beat.

Green 3
|
Tommy Deltuz Jr.
vs
Dave Traber Dave was able to see
the lane in a very normal way while Tommy had to
close things down more than normal. Hitting your
mark is not as important as hitting your angle. Dave
was using angles that he is much more comfortable
with than Tommy. |

Robert Smith
vs
Tommy Jones Before this match I
thought Robert would win easily. I thought this
because Tommy has been bowling worse than I have
ever seen him bowl. Robert has always been a
question mark in my mind because he tends to be too
extreme. I think Robert has lots of
skills but he tends to make extreme choices instead
of finding a middle ground.
At the end of the match it was
obvious Tommy is bowling better. |

Michael Fagan
vs
Parker Bohn III Parker has been
bowling very well and was very confident going into
this match. At the end of the match Parker said he
bowled about 80 percent while Michael bowled at
about 85 percent. Parker had
several opportunities but wasn't able to capitalize.
Michael has struggled this year and has been
working hard to get things back under control. This
match was and indication those efforts are paying
off. |

Mike Scroggins
vs
Joe Ciccone Joe has been working on
cutting his angle down and was probably surprised to
see it work on the Shark pattern. But he looked
great in following is own transition. A very steady
performance by Joe. Mike bowled
well enough to win several of the match ups but he
lost carry at the wrong time without the right
answers.

Blue 3
|
Brian Himmler
vs
Tom Daugherty We can talk about how
good somebody bowled or in some cases we can talk
about how bad somebody bowled. Tom
had 4 games under 185. That won't win many.
Brian proved to be steady. I am
sure this had to do with Brian being able to keep
his angle shut down with a smoother reaction off of
the friction. |
Blue 2
|
Dino Castillo
vs
Danny Wiseman When I am writing
this the show has already been determined. Danny
will look back at the match and see how fortunate he
is to be bowling on the show. Dino
seemed to be on his way to a 4 game sweep by winning
the first 3 games and Danny did not have much of a
look.
Neither Dino or Danny had a great
look until Danny got dialed in. Danny took control
and turned it into a 7 game victory. |
Blue 1
|
Curtis Woods Jr
vs
Walter Ray Williams Jr. Both Curtis
and Walter would be in the same part of the lane
which should raise the scoring pace on the pair.
This proved to be the case and after a 2-2 game
start. Walter proved why he is so dominant. Curtis
started to loose his carry while Walter had tools to
keep his angle down and carry up. |

Mike Edwards
vs
Doug Kent If Mike knew he was going
to bowl this bad, I bet he would have just called in
sick. It was not a good day at the office for Mike.
It always surprises me when Mike doesn't match up
against another straight player because Mike looks
so clean and repetitive. Mike did
not have one game over 200 in this 4 game sweep by
Doug |

Ritchie Allen
vs
Chad Kloss Chad had to see this as
a positive just getting to this point. Chad has not
been bowling very well this year. A
good start by Chad was short lived as the rest of
the match was all Ritchie. |

Brad Angelo
vs
Chris Loschetter I expected this to
be a tougher match than it turned out to be. Chris
spent more time trying to get lined up than Brad.
Brad seemed very comfortable with the transitions as
his low game was 215. Brad's slower speed seemed to
be an advantage. I could see in Chris's eyes in the
last game he was starting to get comfortable. Had he
been able to pull out a victory in game 5 this would
likely have been the type of match I expected. |

|
Chris Barnes
vs
Ryan Shafer I really expected Chris
to win this match. He seemed to be in control of the
lane outside of 10 and that is a part of the lane
that Ryan is not that comfortable with.
For Ryan to beat Chris 4-0 caught me off guard. Ryan
is good enough to compete with Chris but to sweep
Chris usually means Chris was not having a very good
day. |

|
Riga Kalfas
vs
Patrick Allen In a lefty matchup in
this format Patrick is always the favorite. He is
more in control of his own transition than any other
lefty on tour. The late game dominance in this match
is a good example. Riga did an OK job but until the
other lefties prove they can follow their own
transition as well as Patrick I will continue to
pick him in one on one matches. |
Red 3
|
Mitch Beasley
vs
Norm Duke Wrong matchup for Mitch.
No reason to say anymore. It wasn't like Norm had a
great look as he won three games with scores of
178-192-189. |
Red 2
|
Chris Warren
vs
Ken Simard Chris Warren has been
throwing the ball great. I have a lot of respect for
Ken Simard but felt he was not going to like the
fresh and the transition he was going to experience
in this match up.
I was right that Ken would not
like the match up but was wrong about Chris. Chris
would be the first to admit he did not bowl well
enough to win. The scoring pace between these two
bowlers made every shot important. |

Round of 8
|
David Traber
vs
Tommy Jones You won't see Tommy and
Dave play in the same part of the lane very often
and if Dave looses his yank Tommy is going to win 9
out of 10 matches. Strategically not a good matchup
for Dave when Tommy is bowling well and it seems he
is getting things figured out. |
Blue
Round of 8
|
Joe Ciccone
vs
Danny Wiseman This was not a good
matchup for Joe. I think his ball reaction finally
caught up with him. Don't get me wrong Joe bowled
very well but I think he could of had a better look
and at this point in the tournament he ran up
against Danny who had a better look. |
Black
Round of 8
|
Ryan Shafer
vs
Doug Kent I thought Ryan had the
advantage because I like his ball roll when he lofts
it better than I like Doug's. If
Doug had slowed his ball speed down then he would
have had the same issue Brad did against Ryan. |
Red
Round of 8
|
Roger Kossert
vs
Patrick Allen No competition. and
don't take that wrong Roger. Patrick is head and
shoulders about all lefties in following his own
transition. |

Troy Wollenbecker
vs
Dave Traber This was a pretty
heated match and is an example of what this format
brings out in the bowlers.
Intensity is very important from a
sports entertainment market and we saw it in this
match.
Give me more. |

Round of 16
1
|
Tommy Jones
vs
Michael Fagan I was interested in
the match because Michael was committed to playing
straighter and Tommy had not bowled very well in the
first half of the season. Had Tommy
not bowled well Michael would have won this match.
Tommy showed dramatic improvement that was probably
based on the necessity to slow down his ball speed. |

Round of 16

|
Joe Ciccone
vs
Brian Himmler Continued test for
Joe as he works on seeing the lane is a different
way. I was watching this match up from a distance
because I work with Joe at times and we have been
working on a few things. I personally did not like
Joe's ball choices but he continues to impress me
with his progress. As the match progressed he moved
in with Brian and beat Brian at his own game. |

Round of 16

|
Danny Wiseman
vs
Walter Ray Williams Jr. I was
surprised at the outcome of this match because
Walter has been bowling so well and Danny not so
much. It seems the holidays were
more beneficial to Danny than Walter. Danny was
playing angles and a hand that he is good at and I
was told later by Tommy Jones that he surprised to
see Walter using shine when he was using 360 grit.

Round of 16

|
Ritchie Allen
vs
Doug Kent I didn't watch this match
at all. But can tell you that Doug is better at
closing the lane down and not having to deal with
the front as much. Very similar to the same reason I
think Ryan Shafer beat Brad Angelo.
Now Doug and Ryan get to challenge each other. |

Round of 16
1
|
Ryan Shafer
vs
Brad Angelo I have some work to do
here. Brad does not like bowing Ryan. He thinks
Ryan's strategy effects his ball roll and effects
his carry. Even before the match Brad was concerned
more than I thought he should have been and after
the match I now know I have some work for the future
because these two seem to bowl each other quite
often and Brad is right Ryan wins most of them. I
think the answer is in the front part of the lane |

|
Norm Duke
vs
Patrick Allen This is a great
matchup between respectful yet very intense players.
The fans could sense the intensity and the bowling
was very competitive. I love this type of matchup
and the only thing that would make it better is
having the looser not be out of the tournament. I
vote for double elimination in this format. Thanks
for the entertainment Patrick and Norm |

Round 16
1
|
Roger Kossert
vs
Ken Simard Ball speed and control
of that speed was the difference. Ken has too much
and his reaction to his inconsistency is a challenge
he will face often. Roger was just having to hit a
target because he couldn't throw it hard enough to
make it hydroplane. This result was not as
surprising as some may think it is. |
Red 1
|
Steve Harmon
vs
Roger Kossert This was a #1 vs #32
match. There is no way to say this number one had an
advantage mainly because he would have to control
his own transition. There would be no help in
building a shot for him.
I favored bowlers who can keep
their angle shut down and control speed. That
description fits Roger better than Steve so Roger
winning was no real surprise to me |
